Michael Lewkin, Chair of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Thunder Bay Branch Board of Directors, has been presented a Citizens of Exceptional Achievement award in the Spirit of Thunder Bay category. This award, handed out by the City of Thunder Bay on April 12, 2016, honours individuals, organizations and groups who actively create neighbourhoods or communities where people feel a sense of belonging and responsibility.
In his governance role as board member and current chair of the CHMA Thunder Bay branch, Lewkin has helped support the evolution of a community-based mental health service that focuses on possibility and the hope of recovery. His tireless volunteer hours has shaped the organization’s policy direction, and his achievements have impacted the lives of the people served by CMHA Thunder Bay.
During Lewkin’s 20 years of dedicated service, he has served as president and past president locally, six years as provincial director for CMHA Ontario Division, and provincial board chair in 2015. Lewkin also serves on the CMHA National Fund Development Committee from 2013 to 2014.
