Starting this fall, kids and youth in the Grey Bruce area will learn about more than reading, writing and arithmetic – they’ll also learn about mental health.
Programming will focus on mental health promoting topics such as coping with bullying, staying safe, and learning about positive self-esteem.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation has provided CMHA Grey Bruce with a $325,700 grant over three years to expand the availability of mental health literacy to young people in the region. Each year, 12 schools will be selected by the Bluewater District School Board to participate in the program which will be led by youth-peer presenters and puppeteers from the Friends And Neighbours (FAN) Club for Youth. Programming will focus on mental health promoting topics such as coping with bullying, staying safe, and learning about positive self-esteem.
CMHA Grey Bruce is pleased to be able to expand these programs, which have operated since 2003. The grant also provides the opportunity for the branch to evaluate the initiatives and collect evidence about the value of investing in prevention and mental health promotion for kids.
