Ontarians are being invited to share their view on a new dementia strategy following the release of a report by the provincial government. The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care released the province released Developing Ontario’s Dementia Strategy: A Discussion Paper, which is based on feedback from health care providers, people living with dementia and care partners from across the province.
The report was released on Sept. 21, to coincide with World Alzheimer’s Day.
Those interested in responding can do so through an online survey. The province will hold in-person consultations this fall (details to be announced later). These consultations build on work already in progress to support people living with dementia.
Improving dementia support is a component under the Improving Access of the Patients First: Action Plan for Health Care.
Developing Ontario’s Dementia Strategy: A Discussion Paper is seeking public input in the following areas that will form a comprehensive dementia strategy for Ontario:
- Providing supports to help people with dementia live well
- Ensuring access to the right information and services at the right time
- Coordinating care between health care and other service providers
- Supporting care partners with their caregiving responsibilities
- Having a well-trained workforce to provide dementia care
- Raising awareness and reducing stigma about brain health and dementia.
The Ministry will report back on the results of this consultation before the release of the Dementia Strategy in 2017.
