The Canadian Transportation Agency is looking for ways to improve the accessibility of people with disabilities in regulatory measures. The Accessible Transportation consultation is the first phase of the agency’s Regulatory Modernization Initiative, which launched in June.
Important issues related to transportation-related accessibility for people with mental health disabilities are up for discussion, including whether or not current requirements to accept service animals on board should also include emotional support animals.
To participate, read the agency’s discussion paper on accessible transportation. The agency wants to hear your ideas and suggestions on how to address the accessible transportation issues that matter to you. Submit your feedback to consultations@otc-cta.gc.ca. Please note that all submissions will be considered public documents and will be posted on the agency’s website.
The consultation will continue through the summer and fall of 2016. The agency plans to complete consultations and draft modernized regulations and standards by the end of 2017, and implement them in 2018.
Now is your chance to be heard. Persons with disabilities have a human right to equal access to transportation and the CTA is interested in hearing from you.
