For immediate release – The following is a statement from Camille Quenneville, CEO, Canadian Mental Health Association, Ontario Division, in reaction to the Ontario PC investment in mental health and addictions.
“The Ontario PC commitment of $1.9 billion over 10 years is welcome news, particularly with its focus on supportive housing which is key to recovery for individuals living with a mental health or addictions issue. We’re also encouraged the Ontario PCs are looking to organizations like ours to help determine the best way to implement its investment.
“More broadly, today marks an important day for our sector. This is the first time that all three main political parties have promised, in advance of an election, massive investments for mental health and addictions care in Ontario. We’re encouraged that the parties recognize that only significant investments will help our front-line workers deliver timely and appropriate care for people seeking help.
“Mental health and addictions care should be treated like physical health care. And together with our partners at Addictions Mental Health Ontario and Children’s Mental Health Ontario, we look forward to working with government to enhance a system that has been chronically underfunded and under resourced for years.”
