Ontario pharmacists have expanded role in health care

October 18, 2012

As part of Ontario’s Action Plan for Health Care, the role of pharmacists in Ontario has now been expanded. Pharmacists in Ontario can now:

  • Administer flu shots
  • Renew or adapt existing prescriptions
  • Prescribe medication to help people quit smoking
  • Demonstrate how to use an asthma inhaler or inject insulin
  • Support patients who have a chronic disease, such as diabetes, and monitor their condition
