The City of Toronto has announced details of the new Community Crisis Support Service pilot and the community partners that will help implement and deliver the service starting this spring. The new service will provide a community-led solution to respond to mental health crisis calls and wellness checks.
CMHA Toronto was named as one of the four anchor partners of initiative, leading the northwest pilot with seven other organizations: Addiction Services of York Region, Black Creek Community Health Centre, Black Health Alliance, CAFCAN, Jane/Finch Community and Family Centre, Rexdale Community Health Centre and Yorktown Family Services. These community partners provide a broad range of services in the northwest region of Toronto.
The pilot will be specifically designed to address the needs of people experiencing mental health and substance use challenges through a comprehensive crisis response approach that will include rapid access to services such as primary care, psychiatric consultation, rapid access to addiction medicine and non-acute care crisis beds.
