Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Waterloo Wellington Branch was among a group of Guelph area community partners who met with prime minister Justin Trudeau recently to discuss opportunities to improve housing and eliminate homelessness in the community.
The virtual meeting, hosted April 26 by Guelph MP Lloyd Longfield, gave Guelph community agencies the opportunity to discuss with Trudeau how they’re working to eradicate chronic homelessness in the region. Partners included in the discussion on potential investments and collaboration with the National Housing Strategy included the Guelph and Wellington Task Force for Poverty Elimination, Guelph mayor Cam Guthrie, Wellington County warden Kelly Linton, Guelph Community Health Centre, CMHA Waterloo Wellington, and community partners The Welcome In Drop-In Centre, Kindle Communities, Wyndham House, Stonehenge Therapeutic Community and St. Joseph’s Housing Corporation.
According to a news release from Longfield’s office, Trudeau was briefed on how Guelph collaborations are supporting women and children fleeing domestic violence, marginalized individuals, as well as newcomers and Indigenous residents.
