For the 12th straight year, Open Minds Quarterly and Northern Initiative for Social Action (NISA) are seeking entries for the annual BrainStorm Poetry Contest, open to entries from poets internationally who identify as a person with lived experience of mental illness. The contest offers prizes of $250, $150 and $75 for the top three poems and publication of the winners and honourable mentions in NISA’s literary magazine, Open Minds Quarterly.
The BrainStorm Poetry Contest is a fundraising event, with proceeds going to Open Minds Quarterly. Poems are blind-judged by a panel of consumer/survivors or family members on the following: artistic merit, how well it changes or provokes the reader’s thoughts, and originality, etc.
