Health Quality Ontario has released a new quality standard: Schizophrenia Care in the Community.
This newest quality standard focuses on primary care, specialist care, hospital outpatient services, home care, caregivers, and community support services.
It complements another quality standard Schizophrenia: Care for Adults in Hospitals which addresses quality care in hospitals and long-term care homes.
Both include patient guides to help patients have informed discussions about their care with their health care providers. They also include recommendations for system adoption.
These standards together with a recent health technology assessment about cognitive behavioural therapy for psychosis, and recommendation to publicly fund, address care for the many people in Ontario who have schizophrenia and are cared for in a wide variety of settings.
