Statistics Canada (StatsCan) has cancelled the Residential Care Facilities Survey which collected information about residential care facilities in Canada, including facilities for people with mental health conditions and some psychiatric institutions, from 1975 to 2011. The survey was cancelled as part of Statistics Canada program adjustments to meet budgetary savings targets. StatsCan indicates that data from the survey is used by all levels of government, health organizations, facility owners, and related organizations for program analysis, planning, policy development and research purposes.
Final data from the program is now available on the StatsCan website at www.statcan.gc.ca.
