Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Ontario is pleased to accept a donation from TC Energy to support Resilient Minds, a program that helps first responders develop strategies to manage occupational stress and enhance personal resilience.
This gift will help to expand the program to more firefighters across the province and kick-start the development of adaptations of the program for other first responders.
“Knowing that firefighters have access to a program that supports their mental health and well being is important to TC Energy,” said Gretchen Gordon, Senior Lead Liaison Stakeholder Relations, TC Energy. “We’re committed to safety and supporting first responders. Safety is, and always will be, our number one value.”
Resilient MindsTM is an evidence-informed, peer-to-peer, skill-building program that helps first reponders increase their ability to:
- Recognize the effects of psychological stress/trauma in self and peers,
- Understand trauma-informed practices,
- Communicate with peers who may be struggling,
- Respond, safely, and appropriately to distressed citizens, and
- Manage stress, mitigate trauma, and boost resilience.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with TC Energy to expand the reach of Resilient Minds in Ontario,” said Camille Quenneville, CEO, CMHA Ontario. “The firefighters who have completed this training so far are reporting a remarkable 95 per cent decrease in stress levels, making a sigificant difference in the lives of those it touches.”
