Toronto – Timmins social media entertainment company Kinz and Klomp have been named the recipient of Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Ontario Division’s 2022 media award.
Run by Mark Kinsman (KINZ) and Jamie Klomp (KLOMP), Kinz and Klomp produce and host an online show highlighting community issues and events. The Kinz and Klomp show is streamed live on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and LinkedIn five days a week.
Though nominated by CMHA Cochrane-Timiskaming for the award, the company’s entertainment program has garnered a vast and diverse following across northern Ontario through their social media platforms.
In their nomination, CMHA Cochrane-Timiskaming noted that Kinz and Klomp’s online program has had several shows dedicated to engaging with individuals with lived experience to discuss their experiences, struggles, and perseverance.
“Kinz and Klomp LIVE often focuses on humanizing homelessness, addictions, and mental health. These conversations assist in addressing stigma through education and knowledge,” said CMHA Cochrane-Timiskaming Executive Director Paul Jalbert. “We appreciate their commitment to telling meaningful stories on important matters in community-based mental health and addictions care, and to being a platform for both education and community awareness.”
“We are honoured to receive this recognition,” said Mark Kinsman. “Mental health has always been an important issue in our community, and we’re happy to provide a spotlight on these issues and assist community partners in creating meaningful, lasting change.”
“We’re proud to provide a media platform for Timmins and the surrounding area with a focus on the importance of empathy, kindness and community partnerships.” said Jamie Klomp. “Thank you CMHA.”
“This is the first year that CMHA Ontario has recognized a community-based online news and entertainment organization for this achievement,” said CMHA Ontario CEO Camille Quenneville. “Mark Kinsman and Jamie Klomp’s commitment to providing a platform that helps to reduce the stigma and discrimination too often associated with mental illnesses and addictions is very impressive.”
The annual CMHA Ontario media award recognizes an organization or journalist who best exemplifies the spirit of CMHA through coverage that promotes mental health issues, reduces stigma associated with mental illness and broadens the public’s understanding of mental health and addictions issues.
