The Excellence in Quality Improvement Project (E-QIP) – a collaborative initiative of Addictions and Mental Health Ontario, CMHA Ontario, and Health Quality Ontario – has held five regional workshops across Ontario and there are several common themes starting to emerge. The first, and most notable, is the interest in quality improvement amongst community mental health and addictions providers. Many have adopted quality improvement practices and are enthusiastic to partner with E-QIP to further support their work.
Additional themes that have emerged are: a desire for a collaborative space to share practices and initiatives and support peer-to-peer learning, an interest in examining indicators of quality, and a need for additional resources to support quality improvement and data management across the sector.
The regional workshops were held in Kenora, Ottawa, York, Hamilton and London over the past two weeks. Additional consultations are coming up in Sudbury and Toronto.
At the workshops participants learned more about:
- the E-QIP project and its activities
- impacts of the project in a regional context
- discussed the quality work that is happening regionally
- shared hopes and expectations for the project
- planned how it can support community mental health and addictions agencies
The goal of E-QIP is to support Ontario’s community mental health and addiction service providers make care better by enhancing a sector-wide culture of quality improvement. It’s an 18-month project that will build a foundation for integrating quality into everything the sector does for years to come.
