Draft competency profiles for registered psychotherapists and registered mental health therapists now available for input

September 22, 2011

The provincial government established the transitional Council of the College of Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Mental Health Therapists of Ontario to establish regulations and standards that form the basis of a new regulatory college.

As part of their mandate, the transitional Council established a Competency Profiles Task Group (spring 2011) for the purpose of formulating entry-to-practice profiles. Because there is a great deal of diversity in the background and experience of current practitioners, draft Competency Profiles have been developed with input from Registration and Professional Practice Committees, external experts, a consulting firm and the Ontario Coaliton of Mental Health Professionals “Entry-to-Practice Competency Profile”.

These competency profiles will be used as the basis for the development of other College tools and resources. These include a framework for reviewing education/training programs, previous learning assessment tools, and a quality assurance program.

Stakeholder feedback is being sought on the draft Competency Profiles from September 9 to 25, 2011. To participate and provide feedback, please go to www.collegeofpsychotherapists.on.ca and select the survey appropriate to you and your practice.
