Movember is also about mental health

November 7, 2013

movember_logo1It’s that time of year again: Movember. The campaign kicked off Friday, Nov. 1, 2013 and is educating people worldwide about men’s health. What many people may not realize is that Movember also focuses on men’s mental health as well.

Included on the Movember Canada website is information about various mental illnesses and resources about men’s mental health. It also includes details and contact information for mental health organizations, including CMHA.

One of Movember’s strategic goals is mental health, specifically, “staying mentally healthy, living with and beyond mental illness.” The following Movember statements support its strategic goal:

  • Men are mentally healthy and take action to remain well
  • When men experience mental illness they take action early
  • Men are not treated differently when they experience a mental illness

Movember is a global campaign held every November where men grow moustaches to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer and men’s health initiatives. The goal of Movember is to make a lasting impact on the face of men’s health.

Please visit Movember Canada’s website for information on men and mental health.
