With cannabis retail stores set to open April 1, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario has approved mandatory training for employees of those outlets.
CannSell is a training program that will give employees of all private cannabis stores the information they’ll need to sell cannabis responsibly and in compliance with Ontario law. Developed in partnership by established cannabis retail training provider Lift & Co. and MADD Canada, CannSell will provide basic knowledge about cannabis and ensure those who sell it understand the various forms, effects and risks of use.
The training program will be delivered online and will be available as of Feb. 25. Under Ontario law, any person who works in a cannabis retail store must complete the training before starting work.
Canadian Mental Health Association, Ontario Division supports the AGCO’s move to implement mandatory training for cannabis store employees. Our 2017 government submission on legalization and regulation of cannabis included a specific recommendation about training for those that distribute cannabis to consumers through a Cannabis Card program, like Ontario’s Smart Serve program.
