A new continuing medical education (CME), web-based course on understanding and combating the stigma of mental illness has been developed for physicians. This innovative approach utilizes the knowledge of a wide range of stakeholders, including people with lived experience of mental illness, who share their personal stories to facilitate physicians’ understanding of their needs.
The program was developed by Mood Disorders Society of Canada with project partners and sponsors that include the Mental Health Commission of Canada, Bell, North Bay Regional Health Centre, and AstraZeneca Canada in collaboration with the Canadian Medical Association, the Canadian Psychiatric Association and Memorial University.
The program is accredited by the College of Family Physicians Canada and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
