The Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness (CAEH) is calling on the Federal government to make good on their election promise of a National Housing Strategy. In anticipation of the federal government’s Throne Speech on Dec. 4, the CAEH is encouraging all Canadians to get in touch with their local Member of Parliament or to contact the Prime Minister’s office to stress the importance of immediate and long term federal re-investment in affordable housing, including social housing.
CAEH suggests that more than 235,000 Canadians will experience homelessness this year and thousands of vulnerable families are currently on long social housing waiting lists. Affordable housing gives safety and stability to lower income Canadians. Latest estimates by the City of Toronto show that more than 91,000 families are on the waiting list for affordable housing in Toronto alone.
