The Mental Health Commission of Canada and the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention are trying something new: they are co-hosting the world’s first virtual conference on the topic of suicide prevention, postvention and intervention Connecting Canada: Conversations about Communities, Collaborations, and Hope will be held online November 19-21, 2014.
The theme of “Connecting Canada” builds on this year’s theme for World Suicide Prevention Day – “One World Connected.”
The virtual format of this conference allows for increased accessibility to a larger network of people who are affected by, and working in, suicide prevention, intervention and postvention by removing physical and geographical barriers.
There are five keynote speakers who will each focus on a different topic including, Dr. Alexandra Heber on suicide prevention in the Canadian Armed Forces, Linda Liebenberg on community resilience, and Bill Mussell on suicide from an indigenous perspective.
