On Friday October 3, 2014, CMHA Ontario, Mobilizing Minds and mindyourmind teamed up to host a Twitter discussion on alternative treatments for depression to kick off Mental Illness Awareness Week, happening October 5-11, 2014. The discussion focused on evidence-based alternative treatments for depression and anxiety. While research and conclusions about alternative treatments are limited, Mobilizing Minds and Mind Your Mind recently created an infographic, which presents findings about the best-researched alternatives to medication and psychotherapy.
Participants in the tweetchat were encouraged to share their experience on what alternative treatments have worked for them in the past, as well as to share information resources on alternative treatments. Information from the chat reached more than 30,000 individuals on Twitter.
A complete transcript of the chat is available online. For more information about alternative treatments for depression, visit the Informed Choices About Depression website.
