The Canadian Mental Health Association, Ontario is pleased to announce that Mark Henick has joined our team as the Mental Health Works Program Manager. Informed by his own experiences with stigma and the mental health care system as an adolescent, Henick has dedicated his life from an early age to opening minds and creating change.
He has served as the President of Canadian Mental Health Association New Brunswick Division, where he worked on a provincial government committee to develop the first mental health strategy for the province. Most recently, he worked as a front-line mental health clinician at CMHA Toronto Branch where he provided short-term counseling to parents experiencing a mental illness.
Henick is an ardent advocate for mental health, serving as a member of the board of directors for the Mental Health Commission of Canada as well as speaking to diverse audiences about mental health, mental illness, suicide, recovery and hope.
He is the national spokesperson for the national 2014 Faces of Mental Illness Campaign and has shared his story at TedxToronto. His Why We Choose Suicide presentation is the most viewed TED Talk of the 2013 Toronto event.
