The board of directors for the Canadian Mental Health Association, Ontario Division is pleased to announce a new addition.
Yasmin Dini, a global health student at York University, has joined the board for a one-year term through the G(irls)20 Girls on Boards program.
Dini joins the CMHA board with significant experience in grassroots organizing and youth empowerment. She has been part of the Peel Girls Empowerment movement for three years, creating opportunities to fill gaps for young women in Peel Region. She’s also an executive of the Future Black Physicians Initiative at York, an organization aimed at fostering opportunities for underprivileged students interested in health care.
Dini has also researched at Toronto General Hospital, focusing on hepatocellular carcinoma and building a database that will be a repository for future studies and artificial intelligence applications.
She has had unique life experiences that drive her dedication to different causes. Her interests lie at the intersection of social justice, health care and technology.
Launched in 2009 at the Clinton Global Initiative, G(irls)20 places young women at the centre of decision-making processes. Through its signature programs, Global Summit and Girls on Boards, it invests in young women through education and training, building networks, and access to unparalleled opportunities at home and abroad.
Girls on Boards, launched by G(irls)20 in 2017, places community-minded, motivated and trained young women on non-profit governance boards in communities across Canada. After completing online training and several months of coaching with a G(irls)20 approved coach, “Young Directors” begin their one-year term on a board.
