Registration is open for the Crisis Workers Society of Ontario (CWSO) 2014 annual conference, this year organized by CMHA Oxford County. The 30th annual conference, which takes place on June 11 and June 12, 2014 at the Elmhurst Inn and Spa in Ingersoll, Ontario, focuses on self-care for crisis workers.
This year, the CWSO’s annual conference aims to present to crisis workers the importance of taking care of themselves while trying to take care of others. Self-care can sometimes be neglected by crisis professionals and has consequences such as fatigue at work and home and a negative effect on a crisis worker’s worldview. Those who attend the conference can participate in a variety of workshops, listen to speakers and learn new ways of how to care for themselves. The featured speaker is Dr. Shawn Shea, who is an innovator in the fields of suicide prevention and building resiliency.

The CWSO consists of members that provide crisis intervention services and who work in hospital and community mental health programs, distress lines and crisis support services. The organization provides guidance and resources to Ontario’s mental health agencies that do not have crisis programs, as well as education and training opportunities.
