The Toronto Public Health Charles Hastings Lecture on health equity is taking place on May 29, 2012, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the MaRS Discovery District in Toronto. This year, the featured speaker is Sir Michael Marmot, the Chair of the World Health Organization Commission on Social Determinants of Health and Director of the International Institute for Society and Health.
Sir Marmot is an acclaimed international expert on health inequities and is widely recognized as having pioneered the concept of the social determinants of health. For over 30 years, Sir Marmot has led ground breaking research demonstrating how social standing affects health and life expectancy. In 2000, Sir Marmot was knighted by Her Majesty The Queen for his remarkable contribution to the field of epidemiology and health equity.
