On Thursday, February 21, 2013, EENet hosted a webinar on Women, Trauma, and Substance Use: Guidelines for Informed Practices, one of eleven projects that make up the Ontario Drug Treatment Funding Program (DTFP). Women who are involved with substance use have a high prevalence of trauma. The Ontario DTFP Trauma and Substance Use project team is developing guidelines to support organizations that provide substance use treatment services for women. Trauma-informed practices will help service providers to understand the links between trauma and substance use, and to engage with and provide better care for these women.
In our webinar, Nancy Bradley, project lead and director of the Jean Tweed Centre, and Janine Gates, project consultant, gave an overview of the project, discussed what are trauma-informed practices, explained how the guidelines were developed, and looked at the next steps for the project.
