Health ministers from the provinces and territories met in Halifax recently to discuss the 2014 Health Accord. These preliminary meetings were aimed at striking a new health deal between Ottawa and the provinces, with an expected focus on the pressures of managing aging populations, obesity and chronic disease.
Meetings are anticipated to continue in January with provincial and territorial finance ministers, and then conclude with a meeting of the premiers later in the month. The Canada Health Transfer, which channels billions of dollars each year into the provinces, expires in 2014.
