The Ontario Human Rights Commission has released its Policy on Preventing Discrimination Because of Gender Identify and Gender Expression. The policy is the culmination of many years of work by many committed individuals and organizations. A major milestone along the way was the 2012 enactment of Toby’s Act, which included “gender identity” and “gender expression” as protected grounds under the Ontario Human Rights Code. The new OHRC policy helps individuals and organizations understand how these two grounds should be interpreted and accommodated in a range of settings and sectors. The policy also includes a useful glossary of terms and concrete, practical information.
