A new video from the Toronto-based Opening Doors Project explores links between mental health, migration and the social determinants of health. The video features diverse personal stories from three individuals and points to the impacts of social determinants of health – such as racism, homophobia and social exclusion – on mental health. The film also looks at how the Opening Doors Project itself contributed to each individual’s journey.
The Opening Doors Project is a joint initiative of the Canadian Mental Health Association, Toronto Branch; Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services; and Across Boundaries. The project seeks to strengthen, foster and cultivate healthier communities in Ontario by providing free interactive and experiential peer-led workshops about mental health, racism and discrimination in newcomer and consumer/survivor communities.
