A self-help group in southeast Ontario called, “The Mental Health Support Network”, in collaboration with Mood Disorders Canada recently added a blue elephant to their “Elephant in the Room” Campaign. This three year campaign is intended to reduce stigma by talking about it.
Displaying your blue elephant will mean you offer a safe place to talk about mental illness and signals your commitment to reducing stigma. You can do this by telling your stories or having the Network present to you and your organization, or take up the challenge yourself and talk about stigma in your community.
You can get your own blue elephant, pamphlets, and brochures by calling or emailing the Mental Health Support Network in Belleville. The campaign has been hugely successful with 10,000 elephants already distributed throughout Canada.
