There is more and more research that shows links between substance use issues and mental health. There also is some evidence to show that trauma is somehow linked to mental health and substance abuse problems. The Women’s Mental Health and Addictions Action Research Coalition have produced a manual to help agencies and substance use workers better respond to women who have been abused and have related trauma. The manual provides responses and referral procedures, as well as tools and tips to use when starting to work with a woman who disclosed that she has been abused.
EENet has developed a Research Report Round-up of the report, “Implementing a Woman Abuse Screening Protocol: Facilitating Connections between Mental Health, Addictions and Woman Abuse.”
Research Report Round-ups are brief summaries of research reports, presented in a user-friendly format. To read EENet’s clear language summary of these reports, and others, visit www.eenet.ca.
