The City of Sarnia has created a toolkit to make it easier for city staff to hire people with disabilities. Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley made the announcement in Toronto on Nov. 20 during the Ontario Disability Employment Network conference, Informing the Roadmap for Work Disability Policy in Canada’ Conference. The toolkit addresses everything from creating a culture change to accessing support during the hiring process.
Bradley first addressed his concerns about the lack of employment for people with disabilities five years ago.
According to recent estimates, people with a disability make up about 16 percent of the Canadian population – making them Canada’s largest minority group at almost 5.3 million people.
The toolkit can be accessed through the City of Sarnia.
