Six new Family Health Teams (FHTs) have opened in Toronto. One of them is the Village Family Health Team, which opened in 2011. The Village FHT will continue to grow – expanding its chronic disease and mental health programs – eventually caring for 10,000 patients.
There are currently 21 FHTs in Toronto providing interdisciplinary health care – and the total number of FHTs province-wide is now 200. In Toronto, the new FHTs will serve approximately 316,000 patients, including almost 86,000 people who did not previously have access to a family doctor.
