York University researchers have found that yoga is helpful in reducing the physical and psychological symptoms related to chronic pain in women who suffer with fibromyalgia.
Researchers discovered that subjects who participated in 75 minutes of hatha yoga twice a week, for eight weeks, had improved levels of cortisol. Prior to commencing yoga, study participants had lower than normal levels of this hormone, making them more sensitive to pain, fatigue and stress.
