CMHA Ontario’s Minding Our Bodies project will be hosting a one-day knowledge exchange forum in Thunder Bay on February 15, 2013, to explore the role of physical activity and healthy eating in youth mental health promotion and recovery from mental illness. The Youth in Action forum is intended for program managers, decision makers, frontline workers and youth leaders in community organizations serving young people at risk of, or living with, mental health and addiction issues.
Presenters include Dan McGann speaking about his Teen Run Group Therapy Program at Credit Valley Hospital, and Karen DeGagne of the Thunder Bay Regional Outreach Eating Disorder Program talking about understanding body image and weight-related disorders. A panel of local program leaders will focus on access to healthy living resources in the Thunder Bay region, including collective kitchens, and community gardens. The day will conclude with roundtable discussions to explore partnership opportunities and next steps in developing new physical activity and healthy eating programs for youth.
